The National Farmers Union (NFU) has launched a new campaign designed to show farmers and consumers how important farming is to the country. Named “Farming Delivers”, there are six different areas the project is focusing on. These are farming is an important contribution to the economy, it helps the environment, creates thousands of jobs every year, produces millions of tons of food per annum, has good standards of animal welfare and finally produces lots of clean energy.
It is hoped that this campaign will inform members of the public about why they should choose to purchase seasonal British produce and show the importance of agriculture and horticulture to this country.
Farming Delivers is targeting farmers across the UK to get involved and showcase how crucial they are to their respective areas. Here’s a selection of some of the different ways farming is important across the counties and some facts and figures about the areas.

This drive is similar to “Why Farming Matters,” which launched in 2006. There was some initial uncertainty about this new push, with marketing expert Chris Hooper commenting “It is very much a campaign with potential. As consumers, we are much more diligent now about where our food comes from than we were a decade ago. But improving that situation further requires a long-term strategy with clear objectives.”
Farming Delivers however, is aiming to prove the doubters wrong. They say their official message is "Make it British, Make it Local, Make it Happen."
